The Clinch Valley Literacy Council (CVLC) was formed in 1998 as a merger of the former Tri-County Literacy Council (founded 1976) and the Anderson County Adult Literacy Council (founded 1984). The CVLC promotes quality literacy services to the residents of East Tennessee and provides support to local adult literacy provider programs, including the Anderson County Adult Basic Education program and the ESL program at the Oak Ridge YWCA computer lab. Service area includes Anderson, Morgan and Scott counties.

The Bledsoe County Literacy Council was founded in 2001 to support literacy programs in Bledsoe County, including the Adult Education Program. The Nashville Adult Literacy Coalition (NALC) is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that teaches reading to adults and teaches English to non-native speakers. Instruction is delivered primarily by volunteer tutors, who are recruited, trained, and matched with adult learners based on schedule and location preference. In addition, small groups and specialized classes are conducted based on community need. Prospective learners should call for an appointment to enroll in the program. NALC's services are free. Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) Nashville enables those who are ready and willing achieve a better quality of life by getting a job or a better job. Their GED Preparation courses allow you to start at any grade level, give you instant feedback, and allow you to take tests as frequently as you like to get ahead. Come in to OIC offices on Monday mornings at 8:00 to apply for courses.
The Park Avenue Baptist Church offers free English as a Second Language classes, helping people learn and develop language skills that are necessary to function effectively in English speaking countries. Classes are offered on Thursdays from 6:30-8 PM, and are offered at a variety of levels: Pre-Literate, Low Beginners, High Beginners, Low Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced. The classes go on for two months and then take a month break. Classes for the Fall will begin on October 1st and last until November 19th. Walk-ins are welcome, but please try to come early on the evening of your first class to allow time for a quick interview for class placement.

St. Luke's Community House helps working families, seniors, and individuals achieve their potential and prevent problems that threaten the stability of families and community. They provide the community with both GED preparation classes and English Language Learning (ELL) classes. In partnership with the Nashville Adult Literacy Council, St. Luke's offers ELL classes for both beginning and intermediate students. The Sudanese Community and Women's Services Center is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to empowering refugees and immigrants who have resettled in Middle Tennessee. Though their programming is focused on the needs of refugees and immigrants, they do not turn people away. Their Adult Education programming consists of English Language Learning, Citizenship, and GED classes. There is a $30 fee for materials, if you are able to pay. Free childcare is provided during classes. No appointments or phone calls are necessary, simply come to the center during office hours (Mondays 10-5, Tuesdays-Fridays 10-8) and take a placement test.

Friends of Literacy is a private, non-profit agency working in partnership with adult education programs in Knox County to provide classes in basic literacy as well as for adult students studying to obtain their GED. The Patricia Freedman Literacy Academy (PFLA) is a non-profit educational agency working in partnership with the Bristol Public Library.
