Online Courses : This online program of the Adult Literacy Media Alliance (ALMA) provides a variety of interactive lessons for pre-GED learners (reading at 5th to 8th grade level) in reading, writing, vocabulary, math and more. There's no registration or subscription. : The Thinkfinity Literacy Network is a source for free online training for literacy volunteers and literacy professionals, funded by the Verizon Foundation. Adult Education Professional Developement : A joint project of the Center for Literacy Studies and the Ohio Literacy Resource Center, this website offers online professional development classes to individuals covering a variety of topics, including ESL Basics, Integration of Technology into the Adult Education classroom, Adult Educaiton Teaching Tools, and more. Each class is conducted online over a six-week period, and a fee is charged.
Continuing Education : A website project of the National College Transition Network, offering aid to adults in the areas of Career Planning, Applying to College, Financial Planning, Academic Skills, and Resources.

Adult Basic Education Teacher's Toolkit: Created by the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning, this toolkit is a great resource for teaching reading, writing, and math skills.
Beyond To Kill A Mockingbird: These lesson plans for nine classic works of southern literature were developed in 2000 by the Tennessee Literacy Coalition and a group of adult educators and librarians from all over Tennessee. The electronic format is available to download on the link above. The PDFs are broken into lesson sections, but also include the introduction materials and works cited.
Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL): CAL is a private, non-profit organization of scholars and educators who use the findings of linguistics and related sciences in identifying and addressing language-related problems, including Adult ESL.
Dave's ESL Cafe "Idea Cookbook": Each of the topics listed on this site contains dozens of ideas for teaching ESL students either in the classroom or one-on-one. Teachers and Tutors may also submit their own ideas for inclusion in the "cookbook".
Family Health and Literacy: An online guide to easy-to-read health education materials and web sites for families.
Financial Literacy Resources: The Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy lists a number of lesson plans, teaching guides, and other FREE resources on their website.
Hands On English: A 20-page publication of practical, ready-to-use activities for teaching adult ESL learners. Available by subscription, six issues per year, and the order form is available on the website.
Home Safety Literacy Project (HSLP): The HSLP is the result of a partnership between the Home Safety Council and ProLiteracy to develop materials on safety in the home that can be used to teach reading skills to low literate and ELL adults. The materials are available in print form in kits that include teachers' manuals, pencils for students, and well-presented teaching materials conveying the same information at four different reading levels. Safety issues covered in the materials include fire safety in the home, disaster preparedness, and a new module - poison prevention education. The materials are designed to be presented to students through traditional teaching/tutoring methods, enhanced by participation from your local safety officials when possible. The materials can all be downloaded from the website above, or you can order kits from the Home Safety Council for the cost of shipping. However, because the Tennessee Literacy Coalition helped with the pilot implementation for the disaster preparedness materials in Tennessee, we have a supply of the fire safety/disaster preparedness kits which we can provide free while they last! National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy : Professional development for adult literacy practitioners. Contains free downloadable teaching and training materials to help teachers and tutors work with their learners. Also available for download is a variety of research briefs and other publications on such timely topics as Health Literacy, Workplace Education, Corrections Education and many more.
New Readers Press: A division of ProLiteracy that offers teaching materials and textbooks for adult basic literacy through GED preparation, ESL, and adults with learning disabilities. Membership in ProLiteracy gets you a 25% discount. : This small publishing house offers affordable books and materials for teaching or tutoring in reading and mathematics and for dealing with learning disabilities. Phonetics, numeracy, reading comprehension, and various drill materials are suitable for teaching children and adults. Oxton House also offers workshop opportunities for teachers and tutors. : Text To Speech (TTS) technology can be helpful for ESL students or low level readers.
