Literacy organizations are always seeking volunteers. Of the adult Tennessee population who can not read, only 5% are being helped through organizations. This leaves a great need for growth of these programs. Volunteers are an important factor to that. This may be tutoring adult learners, fundraising, event planning, administrative assistance, or any number of other tasks. To find a program in your area to get involved with, search on our find a program page or call the office.
For a full-time volunteer position with a literacy agency, look in to becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA. This is full-time and allows a VISTA to hold no other jobs simultaneously. It is a year long commitment and though you are given a small living allowance, this is not to be regarded as income. Read our VISTA page for more details.
